It's not compatible with Word but apparently the trial version of Word on the new Dell picked them up in error and is trying to open them. So install Microsoft Works 9. In addition the factory install is an inferior install of Windows that most tech enthusiasts won't run in the first place. When I tried to open all hell broke loose and when I wouldn't pay their blood money for Word I was locked out of my files. There was not way to open automatically with work and all were changed to word. The latest Works does not support the oldest Works formats, and I fortunately still had an intermediary Works version that did. After upgrading to a new computer with Windows 7, I need MS Works 9 installed to be able to use hundreds of older Works files, notably the wdb files that cannot be converted to Excel or Word.
